Adopt-a-Block Volunteer FAQ’s
To love strangers by helping them with their practical needs on Saturday mornings (9:00am-11:30am). We expect volunteers to be kind, humble, and hardworking. Volunteers must sign up to serve for at least one semester (ideally a year). Semesters run Sept.-Nov.; Jan.-Mar.; and Apr.-Jun. Volunteers must serve at least two Saturdays a month (weekly is ideal). We take December, Spring Break, and the Summer off to keep fresh and rested.
Yes! You’ll need your own transportation to and from various locations on Saturday mornings. You’ll also need to be physically and emotionally healthy (i.e. able to do physical labour for two hours straight and have a friendly, balanced disposition).
Yes! Start by filling out the online application here. A ministry leader will follow up with you to receive your criminal record search and contact your two character references. If approved, you’ll proceed to training and scheduling.
Yes! There is an orientation for first-time volunteers. Additionally, your first semester will be spent with seasoned volunteers to learn on the job. There will also be ongoing training as needed.
No! But you’ll need to be okay with attending our Saturday morning meeting (15-20 minutes), where we gather to delegate work, share encouragement from Scripture, and pray for the day. You’ll also be paired with a Christian.
